Situation:
The IT organization of a Fortune 500 gaming client asked Metis Strategy for assistance in identifying the key principles that define a world class IT organization and to develop a strategy that would move them toward outstanding performance on each of these elements. The client had received widespread recognition as an IT leader both within and outside the industry as being an IT leader. It had also received several awards for IT excellence from leading US publications but was concerned that it did not have a process to monitor its ongoing performance.
Approach:
Using Metis Strategy’s World Class IT Assessment, the Metis Strategy team spoke with members of our client’s IT organization, representatives from all business units, and as well as a variety of vendors to evaluate our client’s performance relative to the five principles of World Class IT (described in our Services section), and a variety of sub-principles. We also developed case studies analyzing how other firms had achieved outstanding performance in each of the areas where our client was deemed to be in need of improvement.
Result:
Metis Strategy’s World Class IT analysis concluded with short and long term steps for our client to pursue related to people, process, tools, and metrics. We have been asked to return to re-evaluate our client’s progress on a regular basis, and this assessment is considered a starting point for the strategy development of the department. The collateral of our methodology is literally painted on the walls of our client’ s offices, and press releases for the department often refer to “World Class IT.”
