Michael A. Pfeffer, MD, FACP is Chief Information Officer and Associate Dean for Stanford Health Care and Stanford University School of Medicine, overseeing Technology and Digital Solutions to deliver world class technology that advances research, education, and compassionate care across two hospitals and more than 150 clinics, aligned with Stanford Medicine’s value focused and digitally driven mission. He is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine with a joint appointment in Biomedical Research, continuing to practice as a hospitalist and teach medical students and residents. Previously, Dr. Pfeffer served as Assistant Vice Chancellor and CIO for UCLA Health Sciences, where he led a landmark enterprise EHR go live, became UCLA Health’s first Chief Medical Informatics Officer, and guided IT to numerous national and international recognitions, including multiple HIMSS Stage 7 certifications and the HIMSS Davies Award, while also helping launch one of the first ACGME accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship Programs. A globally recognized leader in health IT, he has lectured worldwide, served in national HIMSS roles, published extensively, and has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review and Los Angeles Magazine for his leadership and clinical excellence.
